Easter’s over, and for lots of teens it’s time to knuckle down to some serious last-minute revision as the exam season looms.

The Easter eggs are long gone, naturally, but that doesn’t mean that no chocolate treats are allowed in those darkened bedrooms… there’s lots of good evidence that chocolate treats might help our stressed-out youngsters!


A Swiss study found that people who ate a 40g bar of dark chocolate daily for a fortnight had reduced levels of the stress hormone cortisol, as well as catecholamines – known as the ‘fight or flight’ hormones. The same study suggested that dark chocolate might have a positive effect on microbial activity in the gut – so maybe it would help to settle those fluttery pre-exam tummies?
